'Gasoline Alley' - Top 10 Long-Running Comic Strips

Posted by Jenniffer Sheldon on Friday, August 16, 2024

Gasoline Alley has been around since 1918, and it shows. The Chicago Tribune strip was one of the first to show its characters age over the decades. The main character, Walt Wallet, found a baby on his doorstep, whom he named Skeezix. Skeezix grew up in real time: he was a baby in the 1920s, a child and teen in the 1930s and a fully grown adult by the 1940s. He had a midlife crisis in the 1960s and is now an elderly man. His father, Wallet, is still kicking it at 100 years old.
